ORLANDO, FLA.,– SchenkelShultz Architecture is honored to announce that it has been selected to design the newest addition to the Lake Highland Preparatory School Main Campus. The 71,000 SF academic building will establish a new western edge to the campus and feature a ‘bridging’ element that visually connects the lakefront to the south. The Center for Innovation and Academics embraces a modern interpretation of the historical Georgian language and will support interdisciplinary learning and idea-sharing across multiple academic programs by way of interconnected classrooms, labs, a flexible student commons and media center, as well as administrative offices.
“The idea of the Innovation Institute by the Upper School administrators encouraged us to find a solution that would put this unique element at the heart of the project,” said Ekta Desai, Partner at SchenkelShultz. “The elevated ‘bridge’ is a platform for discovery that is expandable to cross-fertilize between varying subjects such as robotics, engineering, physics and science. Natural light and views to the lake were prioritized to keep students and staff connected and inspired by their environment.”
Founded in 1970, Lake Highland Preparatory School features a 42-acre campus in downtown Orlando and hosts nearly 2,000 students from Pre-K to 12th grade.
